MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota men's and women's swim teams traveled to the University of Tampa on Friday for their first dual meet of 2024. The No. 22 Gopher women defeated the Spartans by a score of 209 to 52, while the men won with a score of 183 to 79.

The women claimed the top two spots in every race for the day, led by freshman Morgan Thomas who picked up four total victories (200 Medley Relay, 50 Free, 100 Free, 400 Free Relay). Fellow freshmen Jade Roghair (200 Free, 500 Free), along with senior Megan Van Berkom (200 Fly, 400 IM) each picked up two individual victories at the meet. In total, nine different women collected individual wins for the 'U' out of the 12 events.

On the men's side, the Gophers claimed the top spot in nine individual events, along with both relays. William Christenson (1000 Free, 400 IM), Bar Soloveychik (200 Free, 500 Free), Josh Johnston (100 Breast, 200 Breast) and Kaiser Neverman (200 Fly, 100 Free) each secured multiple victories for Minnesota. Freshman Ian Steffen was also victorious in the 100 backstroke.

The University of Minnesota diving team will be back in action for the first time this year on Jan. 12-14 at the Bruin Diving Invitational in Los Angeles, Calif. The swimmers will return to the pool on Jan. 19-20 for a dual meet at Pittsburgh, who is receiving votes on the men's side.
