Minnesota defeated BYU, Oregon State and Southern Utah

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- The University of Minnesota women's gymnastics opened their 2024 with a bang, defeating No. 13 Oregon State, No. 24 Southern Utah and No. 31 BYU at the 'Mean Girls' Super 16 Gymnastics Championships at Orleans Arena.

"I'm so excited for this team, this was a fantastic start," said head coach Jenny Hansen. "We had a lot of new people today and they did exactly what they've been doing in the gym. I think some of the most exciting things for us is that we had seniors competing for the very first time. They've been building and building for this moment and they crushed it. They knew that if they kept getting better, they would get their shot."

The Gophers finished with a final team score of 196.850, topping Oregon State (196.525), Southern Utah (196.025) and BYU (195.900).

Gophers senior Gianna Gerdes, a First Team All-Big Ten selection in 2023, took home the all-around crown with a 39.425. She delivered a 9.900 on bars, 9.875's on beam and floor and a 9.775 on vault.
