1/6/2024 6:14:00 PM | Women's Hockey
MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota women's hockey team battled to a 3-1 win on Saturday afternoon at Ridder Arena to secure a sweep over No. 11 UConn to open the second half of the season.
Fifth-year defender Madeline Wethington opened the scoring just 2:48 into the game with her second goal of the weekend.
The Gophers dominated the middle frame, adding two goals and outshooting the Huskies 17-7. Sophomore Josefin Bouveng and freshman Lauren O'Hara each added goals in the period.
UConn got on the board in the third period to break up the shutout.
Junior goaltender Skylar Vetter made 23 saves for her eighth victory of the season.
Quotable
"A really good weekend for us," said head coach Brad Frost. "Getting a sweep over a really good UConn team who is very good out east. They are really tough to play against, but I'm proud of our team for sticking with it."
Notable
Ella Huber notched her second multi-point game of the season with a pair of assists.
The Gophers finish the non-conference portion of the regular season with a perfect 6-0-0 record
