Gopher Tennis to Compete in 2024 ITA Central Regional Championship

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota tennis program is on the road for the first time this season, competing in the 2024 ITA Central Regional Championship, Oct. 9-14, in Memphis, Tenn. The University of Memphis will host the tournament at Leftwich Tennis Center.
The singles and doubles finalists of this event will earn a bid to the ITA Sectional Championship in Ann Arbor, Michigan from Nov. 7-10.
So Far This Season
This weekend's event will mark the second tournament of the 2024 Gopher tennis fall season. The 'U' previously opened the season by hosting the 12th-annual Gopher Invitational from Sept. 20-22, during which the Gophers went 21-4 in singles and 13-5 in doubles.
Tournament Format
The five-day event will kick off on Oct. 9 at 9 a.m. (CT) with two qualifying rounds of singles and one qualifying round of doubles for entry into the main draw.
Gopher Participants
Ten University of Minnesota student-athletes are set participate in singles and doubles competition throughout the weekend: Juniors Aiva Schmitz, Arina Valitova, Sofia Pinto, Anali Kocevar, sophomores Jeselle Ante, Yinong Ma, Mia Liepert, Anlin Xie and freshmen Nora Knezevic and Deniz Turan are all to play in their second tournament of the season.
All Minnesota student athletes besides Schmitz, Kocevar, and Liepert will be participating in the qualifying rounds, as Schmitz, Kocevar, and Liepert automatically qualified for the main draw.
In last season's ITA Central Regional Championship, Liepert and Pinto reached the doubles quarterfinals rounds of the main draw.
