• Minnesota hosts its second game of six-game home stand when the Golden Gophers host the Omaha Mavericks for a Saturday matinee. Minnesota is 3-0 all time against the Mavericks, dating back to 2013. The last time Omaha visited Williams Arena was in a 104-76 Gopher win on Nov 6, 2018. With the win over Oral Roberts on Wednesday, the Gophers are now 97-6 all time against Summit League members.Â
• Minnesota is coming off an 80-57 season-opening win over Oral Roberts Wednesday night. Dawson Garcia scored a game-high 30 points, Parker Fox added 13 points and Lu'Cye Patterson produced 10 in his first game as a Golden Gopher. Garcia bettered his season-opening numbers from a year ago when he had 23 points against Bethune-Cookman to open the 2023-24 campaign. Garcia's 30 points came when he went 11-of-14, including a career-high four three-pointers.Â
• Mike Mitchell Jr. is known for his three-point ability, but the senior from San Jose, Calif., produced a Minnesota-best nine assists. His previous Minnesota best was six last year vs. Indiana, while his career-best is 11 when he played at Pepperdine. Mitchell Jr. also established his 1,000 career point in the Oral Roberts win.Â
• Minnesota had four individuals make their Minnesota debut on Wednesday: Lu'Cye Patterson, Brennan Rigsby, Trey Edmonds, Femi Odukale, while Isaac Asuma made his collegiate debut. The newcomers added 30 points to the Gopher total. Asuma scored six in the opener for his first collegiate points.Â
• Dawson Garcia was named to several preseason awards this year: Preseason All-Big Ten honoree, Naismith Top 50 Trophy Watch List, Preseason Finalist for Basketball Hall of Fame's Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award, and Blue Ribbon Preseason All-Big Ten. It was the second-straight year as a Preseason All-Big Ten and the third time on a Hall of Fame list of his college career.
SCOUTING THE MAVERICKS
• After opening the season at home, Omaha is in the midst of a seven-game road stretch. The Mavericks will play their third game this week on Saturday after a home win vs. Mid-America Christian (85-69) and a road win at Stetson (79-76) to begin the season, 2-0.Â
• Preseason Summit League returner Marquel Sutton averages 14.5 points this season and scored 25 on Thursday against Stetson.  Through two games, Omaha has a well-balanced scoring team with five players averaging double-digit points. Kamryn Thomas has 12 rebounds on the season.Â
• As a team, the Mavericks are shooting .480 from the field, including .420 from beyond the arc. Through two games, they are averaging 82 points and allowing 72.5.Â
