Three Golden Gophers Earn Big Ten Weekly Awards

MINNEAPOLIS – For the fifth time this season, multiple Gophers have earned Big Ten Weekly awards. Livi Wanner earned her second freshman of the week honor, Drew Bennett earned his first diver of the week honor this season and third of his career, and Jacob Johnson earned his fourth freshman of the week honor.
Freshman Livi Wanner posted two 'B' cuts and personal bests at the 2024 Minnesota Invite. As an individual Wanner placed second in the 50 free with a 'B' cut and personal best of 22.21, posted a third place finish in the 100 free with a 'B' cut of 49.13, and a personal best in the 200 free with a 1:48.17. Wanner was also successful as a member of three relay teams. All three relays placed second, the 400 free with a time of 3:17.95, 200 free with a 1:30.09, and 400 medley with a 3:36.76.
Diver Drew Bennett had a successful Minnesota Invite in the diving well. Bennett placed first in both the 1-meter and platform. Bennett posted a 393.30 on the 1-meter and a 419.30 on platform which was a career best. Bennett also placed second on the 3-meter with a 382.35.
Bennett will be competing in the 2024 USA Diving Winter National Championships from Dec. 13-15, in Bloomington, Ind.
Freshman Jacob Johnson had a record-breaking 2024 Minnesota Invite. Johnson took down his own 200 fly school record during prelims with a time of 1:41.56 ('B' cut), he then placed first in the finals with a 1:42.61. In the 100 fly, Johnson also placed first with a 45.44 which is a 'B' cut and personal best. As a relay team member, Johnson helped the 200 medley relay (1:25.43), and 400 medley relay (3:08.03) place second. Johnson also posted a personal best in the 50 free with a 19.82.
The Golden Gophers are off until January 10th, when they will travel to Tempe, Ariz. to take on the Arizona State Sun Devils.
