Gophers Set to Kick Off Spring Season Sunday in Puerto Rico

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota men's golf team is set to begin the 2024 spring season with a trip down to Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, at the Puerto Rico Classic, Feb. 11-13.Â
The three-day, 54-hole stroke play tournament will be held at Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, P.R.Â

The Lineup:Â
The Maroon and Gold will be represented by graduate seniors Jacob Pedersen and Brock Winter, senior Ben Warian, junior Bennett Swavely and sophomore Cormac Sharpe.Â
The Field:
The Gophers will be facing off against Big Ten rivals No. 25 Ohio State, No. 29 host-Purdue, Iowa, and Wisconsin. The rest of the field comprises of No. 4 Ole Miss, No. 9 East Tennessee State, No. 13 Virginia, No. 15 Oklahoma, College of Charleston, Georgia, Marquette, North Florida, and South Carolina.
The Course:Â
Grand Reserve Golf Club is the island's premier championship golf course which plays host to the PGA Tour-hosted event, the Puerto Rico Open. The course plays as a par-72 and measures just over 7,500 yards.
Fall Recap:Â
The Maroon and Gold wrapped up the fall season with top-10 finishes in three of its first four tournaments. Competing in all five tournaments, Warian recorded another impressive stretch of golf with five straight top-20 individual finishes. Warian also led the team in scoring average at 69.92.
Two other Gophers set personal bests during the fall season, with Jacob Pedersen posting a 65 at the Alister Mackenzie Invitational, and Bennett Swavely nabbing a 67 at the Quail Valley Invitational.
