Minnesota Falls to Oregon in First Loss of Season

BOISE, IDA. - The University of Minnesota tennis program claimed its first loss of the 2024 spring season, falling to Oregon 2-5 on neutral courts in Boise, Ida. The Gophers will drop to a 6-1 season record, with a match against Boise State set for Sunday morning.
The Gophers dropped the doubles point to the Ducks when No. 1 Mia Liepert and Sofia Pinto lost 2-6 to Sophie Luescher and Uxia Martinez Moral. Minnesota No. 3 pair Zeyneb Sarioglan and Sofia Pizzoni had already fallen 1-6, and the overall point was secured by Oregon before No. 2 Gopher pair Emma Belluomini and Anali Kocevar could close out a 5-3 lead in their match.
Minnesota kept things close in singles, with four out of six matches going to a third set. Oregon opened up the round with two wins from No. 6 Tilde Jagare and No. 5 Candela Aparisi. No. 2 Jo-Yee Chan clinched the Duck victory as Minnesota's Aiva Schmitz fell to her 7-5, 1-6, 2-6. The lone Golden Gopher points of the match came from No. 4 Emma Belluomini over Karin Young and No. 3 Mia Liepert over Uxia Martinez Moral.
