Eleven Gophers Named WCHA Scholar-Athletes

MINNEAPOLIS - Eleven Golden Gopher women's hockey players are among the 84 student-athletes honored as 2023-34 WCHA Scholar-Athlete award recipients announced by the conference on Wednesday.

Madeline Wethington was named a WCHA Scholar-Athlete for the fourth time in her career while Maggie Nicholson and Audrey Wethington earned their third distinction. Peyton Hemp and Skylar Vetter became two-time honorees, while Josefin Bouveng, Allie Franco, Sophia Johnson, Lucy Morgan, Solveig Neunzert and Taylor Stewart earned the honor for the first time.

To earn recognition as a WCHA Scholar-Athlete, league-member student-athletes must have completed at least one year of residency at their present institution prior to the current academic year and must also have a grade point average of at least a 3.50 on a 4.0 scale for their previous two semesters or three quarters. Student-athletes may also qualify if their overall GPA is at least a 3.50 for all terms at their present institution.

Ohio State leads all institutions with 19 honorees for 2023-24. Minnesota, Bemidji State, Minnesota State and St. Thomas all tabbed 11 selections. Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State each had eight recipients, while Wisconsin received five.
