Minnesota Drops Two on Day One of UNT Invite

Minnesota fell to Texas Tech and North Texas
GAME ONE
DENTON, Texas -Â It was a heartbreaker on Friday, as the Minnesota Golden Gophers came up one run short of victory, losing to the Texas Tech Red Raiders 2-1.
Senior Bri Enter (2-1) took the loss in the circle for Minnesota (4-4). The right-hander went three innings, giving up one run on four hits. Sophomore Sydney Schwartz started the ballgame and went four innings, surrendering one run on four hits.
In the batter's box, the Gophers were paced by sophomore Addison Leschber, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Gophers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Sophomore Breezy Burnett came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minnesota and get them on the board. The Gophers were unable to hold the lead, as Texas Tech scored two times over the remaining four innings to grab the 2-1 win.

GAME TWO
DENTON, Texas -Â Junior Kayla Chavez collected four RBIs, but the Minnesota Gophers fell to the North Texas Eagles 7-5 on Friday.
Senior Bri Enter (2-2) took the loss in the circle for Minnesota (4-5). Freshman Macy Richardson was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going two shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out two.
Chavez went 2-for-3 with a home run and a walk in addition to her four RBIs for the Golden Gophers. Senior Sydney Strelow furnished a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gophers were trailing 4-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Minnesota's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Chavez.
The Eagles broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the sixth inning, when the Golden Gophers got back on the scoreboard. Minnesota scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Chavez, which evened the score at 5-5. North Texas then scored two times over the remaining one inning to break the tie and grab the 7-5 win.
