Minnesota Drops Friday Road Match 1-4 to No. 38 Memphis

MEMPHIS, TENN. - The University of Minnesota tennis program finished Friday with its second loss of the season, falling 1-4 to No. 38 Memphis on the road. The Gophers will drop to a 7-2 record, with a match against No. 48 Utah set for Saturday morning on neutral courts.
The Gophers lost the doubles point to the Tigers when No. 3 Zeyneb Sarioglan and Sofia Pizzoni lost 2-6 to Alice Amendola and Miriam Grosmann. Minnesota No. 1 pair Aiva Schmitz and Mia Liepert had already fallen 0-6, and the overall point was secured by Memphis before No. 2 Gopher pair Emma Belluomini and Anali Kocevar could close out a 5-3 lead in their match.
Memphis then claimed two straight singles points before ultimately winning the match 4-1. The Tigers opened up the singles round with wins from No. 2 Leonie Moeller and No. 6 Micah Pierce. The Gophers got on the board when No. 4 Aiva Schmitz defeated Emily Meyer 3-6, 6-1, 4-6. No. 5 Sofia Pinto would fall to Alice Amendola 6(6)-7(7), 1-6, which clinched the Memphis victory.
