MEMPHIS, TENN. - The University of Minnesota tennis program drops to a 7-3 record after a tight 4-3 loss to Utah on Saturday. The loss marks the Gophers' second of the weekend after coming up short in a 4-1 match against Memphis on Friday.

Utah put the first point on the board after winning the doubles round. Minnesota's No. 3 pair Sofia Pinto and Aiva Schmitz fell to Yuhan Liu and Kat Lyman in a 6-2 match to kick off the day. The Utes clinched the point after No. 1 Ana Luiza Cruz and Marcela Lopez defeated Emma Belluomini and Anali Kocevar 6-3.

The Gophers kept it close in the singles round, winning three to tie things up and bring the last match point down to the No. 1 spot. Utah struck first in the No. 5 spot as Kat Lyman beat Sofia Pinto 6-2, 6-2. Minnesota then added two to the board when No. 4 Aiva Schmitz and No. 3 Emma Belluomini both picked up wins. The Utes then picked up their third point of the match, but No. 6 Zeyneb Sarioglan kept the Gophers afloat with a 6-4, 0-6, 6-2 win over Sara Akid. In the No. 1 spot, Anali Kocevar battled closely with Marcela Lopez, who ranks 83rd in ITA's singles rankings, before Lopez ultimately won 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, clinching the match for Utah.
