Strelow and Valencia Show Out in Minnesota's 10-1 Victory Over New Mexico

Valencia and Strelow tacked on three RBI each and a combined nine hits

DENTON, Texas - Freshman Nani Valencia and senior Sydney Strelow each racked up three RBIs to help propel the Minnesota Golden Gophers past the New Mexico Lobos 10-1 on Sunday.

Senior Bri Enter (3-3) started in the circle and picked up the win for Minnesota (5-7). The right-hander went five shutout innings while giving up three hits, allowing one walk and striking out three.

Strelow went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, a triple and a walk in addition to her three RBIs and Valencia put together a 2-for-5 day with a double, supplementing her three RBI performance for the Golden Gophers. Sophomore Jess Oakland compiled a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Golden Gophers put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the fifth inning. Minnesota's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Valencia.

The Lobos failed to push any runs across before the Golden Gophers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. which brought the score to 7-0 in favor of the Golden Gophers.

New Mexico narrowed Minnesota's lead to 7-1 before the Golden Gophers stretched the advantage to 10-1 in the seventh inning. Strelow's bases-clearing triple scored all three runs in the frame for the Golden Gophers. The score remained 10-1 for the rest of the game, as Minnesota coasted to the win.
