ABOUT THE IOWA GAME
  • Minnesota and Iowa are meeting for the 87th time, with the Hawkeyes holding an 59-27 advantage in the series that started back in 1975. Iowa won the matchup earlier this season at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, 94-71.
  • In the last meeting between rivals Iowa and Minnesota, the Maroon and Gold were paced by Amaya Battle's 16 points, five assists and five steals in Iowa City. Iowa saw Caitlin Clark score 35 points and hit eight threes while handing out 10 assists and collecting five rebounds. In the post Minnesota got 13 points from Sophie Hart while Iowa's Hannah Stuelke had 19 points on 9-of-10 shooting.
  • Iowa is 2-2 in its last four games, and has lost each of its last two road games to Nebraska (82-79) and Indiana (86-69). Iowa's 69 points against Indiana was the team's lowest point total during Big Ten play this season. Iowa did follow that performance up with a 101-point game against Illinois at home, a game they won by 16.
  • Reigning National Player of the Year Caitlin Clark is the leader of Iowa's offensive attack at 32.1 points per contest, which is the top scoring rate in the NCAA this season. Clark also is the nation's leader in assists per game at 8.5 and has registered five triple doubles this season with her average of 7.0 rebounds per game sitting at fourth overall in the Big Ten this year.
  • As of Feb. 25, Iowa is the No. 1 team in the country in scoring at 92.1 points per game. The team is the nation's leader in assists per game (21.3) and is the top team in the Big Ten in defensive rebounds per game (30.8), 3-point attempts (28.8) and threes made per game (10.8) with Clark's 5.3 per game leading the team and the NCAA.
GOPHER NOTABLES
  • Minnesota dropped its 12th game of the season last Saturday when the Cornhuskers of Nebraska took down the Maroon and Gold 70-51. The battle in Lincoln saw Mallory Heyer post her 10th career double double with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Amaya Battle added a dozen on the offensive end while adding six rebounds and four assists. True freshman Grace Grocholski scored eight of her 10 points in the fourth quarter, tying her with Mara Braun this season with games in double figures with 17.
  • True freshman Grace Grocholski has claimed three Big Ten Freshmen of the Week honors this season. The Wisconsin native has 17 games this season where she's scored in double figures, which is tied for the most in the Big Ten among freshmen. She's two threes away from the second most in a single season by a freshman in Minnesota history and Grocholski also leads the Big Ten in overall scoring (11.5) and scoring during conference play (11.5).
  • University of Minnesota head women's basketball coach Dawn Plitzuweit announced on Jan. 29, that sophomore guard Mara Braun suffered a foot injury against Illinois that will require surgery and will be out indefinitely. This season Braun has been one of the Big Ten's top scorers at 17.8 points per game, which is fourth in the conference, while shooting a career high 37 percent from three.
  • Without Mara Braun in the lineup Janay Sanders has slid into the starting lineup for the Gophers the past seven games and has upped her scoring average from 5.3 to 12.6 points per game. Since joining the starting lineup Sanders has the second-best field goal percentage on the team at 50.9 percent (29-of-57).
  • At 286 Amaya Battle is 28 assists away from breaking into the program's all-time top 10 career assists. At her current pace of 5.02 assists per game, Battle is on pace to reach about 605 assists, which would be second all-time at the 'U' with the all-time record being 633 by Deb Hunter (1979-83).
BY THE NUMBERS
2 - Grocholski has hit 65 threes this season, and is two away from the second most in a single season in school history by a freshman.
14,625 - Wednesday's game against Iowa is anticipated to break the series single-game attendance record that was previously set back in 2004, a game that Minnesota defeated the Hawkeyes, 75-61.
3 - Minnesota is undefeated at home in front of 14,000 fans, or more, at 3-0.
48 - During conference play Minnesota has shot 48.5 percent from the floor in the fourth quarter.
11 - Minnesota is 11-2 this season when scoring 70 or more points.

Minnesota's final game of the regular season is a road test against Penn State on March 3. That game in State College is set for a 12 p.m. CT start time and will be streamed on B1G+.
