Minnesota Heads to Puerto Rico to Open 2024 Spring Season

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota women's golf team is set to begin its 2024 spring season in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico at the Purdue Puerto Rico Classic from Feb. 4-6. 

The Purdue Puerto Rico Classic is a 54-hole, three round event played over the course of three days. The first round will begin Sunday, Feb. 4 with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The second round will also begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Monday, Feb. 5 and the final round will take place with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday, Feb. 6.

Lineup: 
The team lineup will feature sophomore Isabella McCauley and senior Hailey Loh along with graduates Grace Curran, Emma Carpenter, and Megan Furtney. Freshman Phitchanaj Phongthammarug will compete as an individual.  

The Field: 
Minnesota (No. 50) is one of 15 teams competing in the tournament. They will be joined by: 
Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana State, Texas A&M, Auburn, Purdue, Oklahoma State, Mercer, Texas Christian, Cincinnati, Kansas State, Furman, Georgia Southern, and Louisiana Monroe. 
 

The Course: 
The Grand Reserve Golf Club is one of only two championship courses in the Caribbean and has hosted the Puerto Rico Open since 2008. The course measures over 6,000 yards and plays as a par 72.

Looking Ahead: 
Following the Purdue Puerto Rico Classic, the team will travel to Peoria, Arizona for the Westbrook Invitational. This tournament will be held on February 25 and 26.
