Trio of Minnesota Divers Qualify for NCAAs in their Second Event

HOUSTON, Texas - At least three Minnesota divers will participate in multiple events at the NCAA Championships after securing their spots at the Zone D Diving Championships on Tuesday at the University of Houston.

Freshman YuTong Wang clinched a spot in the men's 1-meter dive at the NCAA Championships with a fourth place finish. Wang was fifth after the preliminary round with a score of 352.05. The Big Ten 1-meter diving champion improved his score in the finals, moving to fourth place overall after scoring 382.05. Wang also secured a spot in the 3-meter dive on Monday.

Sophomore Vivi Del Angel dove to a spot in her second event at the NCAA Championships, placing first overall in the women's 3-meter. She scored a 353.60 in the preliminary round and followed it up with a 335.00 in the finals to secure the victory. On Monday, Del Angel also qualified in the 1-meter.

Freshman Elna Widerstom placed tenth overall in the women's 3-meter. After a preliminary score of 303.45, she advanced to the finals in 13th place. Her score of 324.10 in the finals pushed her to tenth, allowing her to compete at the NCAA Championships after a sixth-place finish in the 1-meter on Monday.

Andrew Bennett scored a 312.50 on the men's 1-meter to advance to the final round. With a 329.25 in the finals, the sophomore remained in 12th place. If Bennett can secure a bid on the platform on Wednesday, he will also be able to dive the 1-meter at the NCAA Championships.

Senior Av Osero finished 18th in the prelims with a score of 293.30 to advance to the finals. Her score of 288.20 placed her at 17th overall, outside of qualifying.

Teammates Addie Albrecht (259.45) and Kate LaMonica (247.45) also dove in the preliminary round, but were unable to advance to the finals.

The Zone Diving Championships conclude on Wednesday with both men's and women's platform.
