Gophers Fall in 4OT Heartbreaker to Clarkson

POTSDAM, N.Y. - The No. 5 Minnesota Golden Gophers women's hockey lost a four overtime heartbreaker to the No. 4 Clarkson Golden Knights, 3-2, at Cheel Arena on Saturday evening.
Sophomore forward Josefin Bouveng got the scoring started for the Gophers 7:26 into the game, tapping in her 19th goal of the year. Abbey Murphy and Madeline Wethington recorded assists on the play, Wethington's 100th career point.
Just 1:26 later junior Ella Huber connected for her 18th goal of the season. Murphy and Bouveng were credited with the assists on the play. The Golden Knights answered with just under four minutes to play in the first period to cut the Minnesota lead to 2-1.
With under two minutes left to play in the third period, Clarkson tied the game and sent it to overtime. The score would remain tied at two for three overtimes before the Golden Knights scored a power play goal five minutes and 44 seconds into the fourth overtime.
Fifth-year senior Lucy Morgan tallied a career-high 53 saves.

"Tonight's loss was heartbreaking. Our players battled and competed so hard," said head coach Brad Frost. "Any time you lost is hard, but losing in the 4th overtime hurts a little different. I am so proud of our team and how far they came this year. They fought until the end."
