Widerstrom Earns All-America Honors on 1-Meter

ATHENS, Ga. - Minnesota freshman, Elna Widerstrom, earned All-American honors on Thursday night after finishing sixth in the 1-meter finals at Jack Bauerle Pool.
The Lund, Sweden native was in seventh place after a preliminary round score of 286.40. In the finals, she scored a 293.65 to move her into sixth place and finish on the podium with All-America honors.
Fellow diver Vivi Del Angel placed 18th in the prelims with a score of 265.30, while Addie Albrect scored a 241. 60 in her first NCAA Championship appearance.
Two Gophers, Eliot Kennedy and Katie McCarthy, competed in the 500 free preliminaries. Kennedy swam a 4:46.39, while McCarthy finished in 4:46.20.
Megan Van Berkom represented the 'U' in the 200 IM prelims. She finished 19th, just outside of advancing to finals, with a time of 1:55.96.
The 2024 NCAA Championships will resume on Friday morning with prelims at 9:00 a.m. CT. Van Berkom will swim the 400 IM, while Del Angel and Widerstrom will compete on the 3-meter springboard. Both swimming and diving events are broadcast on ESPN+.
