Minnesota Falls 4-3 to Nebraska at Home

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota tennis program drops their Big Ten home opener 4-3 against Nebraska. The Golden Gophers move to a 2-2 Big Ten conference record and a 9-7 overall record. 
 
Match Highlights
Nebraska claimed the doubles point to start off the match. In the No. 3 spot, Aiva Schmitz and Sofia Pizzoni fell to Isabel Adrover Gallego and Lucy Loy in a 6-3 match. The round finished in the favor of the Cornhuskers after Raphaëlle Lacasse and Maja Pietrowicz took down the Gophers' No. 1 Anali Kocevar and Emma Belluomini.
 
Minnesota got their first point on the board in singles after No. 4 Emma Belluomini defeated Maja Pietrowicz 6-2, 6-2. Nebraska then picked up back-to-back wins in spots 5 and 1 to go up 3-1. The Gophers' No. 3 Aiva Schmitz responded with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 win over Isabel Adrover Gallego, keeping Minnesota alive with two more singles left to play. The Cornhuskers then clinched the overall match when Jillian Roa took down Sofia Pizzoni 6-1, 6(1)-7(7) at the No. 6 spot. The Gophers wrapped up the match with No. 2 Anali Kocevar's 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory over Anfisa Danilchenko.
