Gophers Set to Close Home Season Wednesday Night vs. Indiana

• The Minnesota men's basketball team closes the home season Wednesday night when the Golden Gophers host the Indiana Hoosiers. Game time is set for 8 p.m., televised on Big Ten Network and broadcast on KFAN 100.3 FM. The Hoosiers hold a 102-67 advantage over the Gophers all-time as Minnesota looks for its first win over the Hoosiers since 2019. Wednesday's game marks the second time in three years the Gophers close out the home season against the Hoosiers. Minnesota fell to Indiana 84-79 in 2022's home season finale.
• Wednesday's game marks the second time these two teams will meet this season. Indiana took the first game with a 74-62 win on Jan. 12. Indiana snapped a seven-game Gopher win streak when it jumped out to an early lead and maintained it for the rest of the game. Pharrel Payne recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to go with a career-high five blocked shots, and Dawson Garcia added 14 points.
• Minnesota is coming off a 75-70 win over Penn State on Saturday. Minnesota erased a 23-point deficit to come back and defeat Penn State for its ninth Big Ten win of the season. Minnesota was down 41-18 in the first half and cut the deficit to 12 at the half with an 11-1 run. Minnesota went on a 21-5 run in the second half and took its first lead since 18:22 of the first half with 4:41 remaining in the game.
• Elijah Hawkins broke the single-season assist record in the Penn State win. Entering the game with 203 assists this season, he needed five to break Marcus Carr's record of 207 set in the 2019-20 season. Hawkins added eight in the win and now has 211 this year. Earlier this year, Hawkins established 17 assists in a single game, another program record. Hawkins also added his 1,000th career point of his collegiate career.
• Cam Christie was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the second time this season. He scored a team-best 21 points in Minnesota's two games this past week against No. 13 Illinois and Penn State. In Saturday's win over Penn State, Christie tied a game-high 19 points. In the loss at Illinois, Christie scored 23 of Minnesota's 97 points and ranked second on the team in scoring. The 23 points were the third-most scored by a Big Ten freshman this season.
ABOUT INDIANA
• Indiana is 16-13 and 8-10 in the Big Ten as it's coming off a pair of wins against Wisconsin and Maryland last week. After dropping four straight, the Hoosiers earned a home win over the Badgers last Tuesday and a road win over the Terrapins Sunday. Like Minnesota, Indiana erased a double-digit deficit to win the game over the Terps.
• Indiana has four individuals in double-digit scoring. Frontcourt presence Malik Reneau and Kel'el Ware averaged 16 and 15.3 points, respectively, while freshman Mackenzie Mgbako and Trey Galloway averaged 12 and 10.7. Ware also averages a team-best 9.7 rebounds, tied for second in the Big Ten. Gabe Cupps has started in the past eight games for the Hoosiers and has seen action in 29 games, while Xavier Johnson averages 8.4 points in 16 games played this year.
• As a team, Indiana averages 73.2 points and allows 75.1. The Hoosiers are shooting 48.1 percent from the field, the second-best in the Big Ten behind Purdue. They average 5.1 three-pointers per game. The Hoosiers also shoot 65.8 from the charity stripe and average 34.9 rebounds.
