Gophers Set to Begin Big Ten Slate Against Indiana, No. 48 Purdue

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota tennis program will see its first Big Ten action of the season this weekend, hitting the road to face Indiana and No. 48 Purdue. The Gophers (7-5, 0-0 Big Ten) will face the Hoosiers (6-8, 0-1 Big Ten) on Mar. 9 at 10:00 a.m. (CT) at IU Tennis Center in Bloomington, Ind. Then, the Maroon and Gold takes on the Boilermakers (7-3, 1-0 Big Ten) on Mar. 10 at 10:30 a.m. (CT) at Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Ind.
The Season So Far
Last Tuesday, the Gophers dropped a close 4-3 match against Penn on neutral courts to round out their non-conference schedule. Minnesota is 7-5 on the season so far.
Through the seven Minnesota student-athletes that have seen official dual-match action this season, the Maroon and Gold are 52-20 in singles and 30-26 in doubles.
The Competition
Indiana is coming off their Big Ten season debut, wherein they fell to No. 66 Iowa in a 6-1 match at home. The Hoosiers hold a 6-8 overall record, and will face the Gophers for the first time since Apr. 23, 2022, losing in a 4-0 match in Bloomington, Ind.
Purdue is also coming off their Big Ten season debut, defeating No. 68 Rutgers 4-3 on the road. The Boilermakers hold an ITA ranking of 48 and hold a 7-3 overall record. The program is set to face Minnesota for the first time since the Gophers defeated them 4-1 on Apr. 24, 2022.
