Gophers Post Multiple Top-10 Finishes at Azusa Pacific, Bethel Invite

Minnesota had two top-10 finishes in program laurels

AZUSA, Ariz. -- The Minnesota track and field program competed at both the Bethel Invitational and the Bryan Clay Invitational (at Azusa Pacific University). The two teams combined for multiple personal-bests and one top-10 finish in program laurels.
 
At the Bryan Clay Invitational on the men's side, Daniel VanAcker started out the action on Thursday when he posted a time of 8:51.18 in the 3,000 steeplechase, a new personal-best. He finished fourth in the event. Leo Goodman (3:46.95) placed 20th in the men's 1500m run and hit a PR.

For the women's team, Zoie Dundon placed 12th in the women's 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 9:57.44, a career-best and the fourth-best time in school history. Erin Reidy set a personal-best in the 1500 meter with a time of 4:21.23, taking home a heat win, Freshman Ali Weimer took 12th in her heat in the women's 5,000 meter run with a personal-best time of 16:30.20. Emma Atkinson took seventh in her heat of the women's 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:31.31, a personal-best. Elsa Bergman placed 25th in the event with a time of 17:05.01.
 
Minnesota also sent several student-athletes to the Bethel Invitational Saturday. On the women's side, Kennedy Martinson took home the 100 meter hurdles title with a time of 13.77, which is a personal-best and is the seventh best mark in school history. Ellie Kuechle won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.38 while Hailey Anchor went 1:04.76 to finish second. In the 800 meter, Delia Johnson, Charlotte Lange and Kennedy Martinson all finished in the top seven. Isabelle Schmidt won the women's shot put with a throw of 14.04 meters. Hadley Streit took first (56.81 meters) while Ella Pavlovich (51.83 meters) placed second in the hammer throw.

On the men's side, Dante White took third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.66. Emmett Gerres won the 1500 meter run with a time of 3:53.93 while Cameron Stocke (3:59.17) and Samuel Fish (4:00.67) placed second and third. Senior Michael Buchanon won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.01. In the field events, Dante White won the men's long jump with a distance of 6.92 meters while Hakeem Ford placed third (6.54 meters). Jordan Dunigan finished second in the men's shot put with a throw of 15.34 meters. He also took sixth in the discus throw (44.87 meters).
 
The Gophers continue the outdoor season April 17 at the Minnesota Invite, hosted on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
