Krapf's Two Homers Lift Gophers Over Hawkeyes

Minnesota defeated Iowa, 7-5

IOWA CITY, Iowa -Ā Junior Taylor Krapf put together a brilliant showing at the plate Saturday, hitting two homers to help propel the Minnesota Golden Gophers over the Iowa Hawkeyes 7-5.

Senior Jacie Hambrick (4-8) got the win for Minnesota (24-22, 10-8 B1G). The right-hander went five innings, giving up one run on six hits, allowing two walks and striking out four.

Krapf went 2-for-3 at the plate, supplementing her two home runs with three RBIs. Senior Delanie Cox added to Krapf's awesome power-hitting performance by going 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI. Sophomore Jess Oakland also chipped in for the Gophers, going 2-for-3 with a double, two walks and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Gophers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Krapf put Minnesota on the board with a leadoff home run off sophomore Jalen Adams.

The Gophers then held the Hawkeyes scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. The Minnesota offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Cox, which brought the Gophers lead to 5-0.

Minnesota held Iowa scoreless before expanding their lead to 7-0 the following inning. The Gophers added two to their tally on Krapf's two-run homer to left. Iowa put five runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Minnesota still held on for the 7-5 win.
