Gophers Season Comes to an End at NCAA Regional Finals

Minnesota earned a team score of 197.400

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- The No. 15 University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team had its season come to an end in the NCAA Regional Finals after it posted a score of 197.400 on Saturday night.

LSU (198.250) took home the top score of the night while Arkansas (197.825) placed second and Kentucky (197.475) took third. Both LSU and Arkansas now advance to nationals in two weeks in Fort Worth, Texas.

Mya Hooten took home an event title on the floor, her 10th of the season, tying with LSU's Aleah Finnegan and Kentucky's Raena Worley at the top with a 9.950. Gianna Gerdes (39.375) finished fourth in the all-around with a score of 39.375.

The Gophers started the evening by posting a 49.400 on the floor, followed by a 49.250 on vault, a season-best 49.500 on bars (tied for fifth-best all-time) and finished with a 49.225 on beam.

LSU's Haleigh Bryant took first in the all-around with a 39.850 score. She also took home the vault and bars titles with perfect 10 scores on each event. LSU's Konnor McClain posted a 9.950 on balance beam along with Arkansas' Kalyxta Gamiao to take first place.

EVENT BREAKDOWN:

FLOOR
Minnesota started out strong, totaling a 49.425 on the floor. Mya Hooten paced the group once again, anchoring the team with a 9.950. Gianna Gerdes was after her with a 9.900 while Emily Koch and Lauren Pearl went 9.875. Seria Johnson and Leah Gonsiorowski rounded out the group with 9.825s. After one rotation, Minnesota stood in second place behind only LSU (49.450).

VAULT
The Gophers earned a score of 49.250 on vault. Sarah Moraw tied her career-best performance with a brilliant 9.900 to lead the group. Gerdes was on her heels with a 9.875, her second straight 9.875 vault of the regional. Pearl and Hooten both went 9.850 while Jencks and Sophia Nguyen were up next with scores of 9.775. After two rotations, the Gophers (98.675) were in fourth while LSU (99.075) led, Arkansas (98.825) was next and Kentucky (98.725) was in third.

BARS
Minnesota earned a season-best score of 49.500 on bars, a mark which tied for fifth-best all-time in program laurels. Mya Hooten tied a season-best with a spectacular 9.950 while Ella Sirjord went 9.925, a career-best mark. Sophia Nguyen, who stepped in for Jordyn Lyden, delivered with a career-best 9.900 outing after not competing on the event for over a month. Gianna Gerdes delivered a 9.900 while Seria Johnson rounded out the top five with a 9.825.

BEAM
A 49.225 on beam ended the night for the 'U'. Ella Sirjord continued her brilliant night, earning a 9.925 to lead the beam team. Lauren Pearl scored a 9.875 while Katie Horak and Sarah Moraw went 9.850. Emily Koch cemented the top five with a 9.725.

UP NEXT
Minnesota's 2024 season comes to an end with a final record of 20-11 (6-3 B1G) and a second place finish at the Big Ten Championships. Mya Hooten qualified for vault as an individual and will compete at the 2024 NCAA Championships April 18-20 in Fort Worth, Texas.
