Mesones Returns to Gophers After Gap Year

MINNEAPOLIS -- Luisamariana Mesones (Trujillo, P.R.) will return to the University of Minnesota women's golf team after taking a gap year during the 2023-24 season. Mesones returns to the Golden Gophers after a standout freshman season in 2022-23.

 

"Really excited to welcome Mariana back with open arms," said head coach Rhyll Brinsmead. "She had a stellar freshman campaign and will be back more motivated than ever."

 

Mesones currently holds the school's 18-hole (62), 36-hole (130), and 54-hole records (203), after earning the title of runner-up at the Evie Odom Invitational in 2022. Mesones earned four top-ten and five top-20 finishes in her freshman season. She earned Big Ten Player of the week honors twice in her freshman season, shooting a 73.49 average across 11 tournaments. The Puerto Rico native wrapped up her freshman season competing at the NCAA Westfield Regional tied for 37th. Mesones will return to the squad in fall of 2024.
