Three days of outdoor track and field May 10-12

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota sets its sights on the postseason as it travels to Ann Arbor, Mich., for the 2024 Big Ten Conference Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 10-12 hosted by the University of Michigan at U-M Track and Field Stadium.

ABOUT THE 2024 BIG TEN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The action begins for the Maroon and Gold Friday morning and concludes on day three, Sunday night. Each day of competition will feature two live video streams via B1G+, one highlighting the track events and another separate stream focused on the field events. Live stats will be available for fans to follow along all weekend through PrimeTime Timing. Michigan is hosting the conference meet for the first time since 1988 and first time ever at its new stadium, built in 2018. Tickets for the event are on sale through the Michigan ticket office.

LAST TIME OUT
The Golden Gophers track and field program sent student-athletes to compete at the Drake Relays (Des Moines, Iowa), Desert Heat Classic (Tucson, Ariz.) and Rider/Bolstorff Invite (Macalester College) over the course of the weekend April 26-27. Throughout the three meets, Minnesota took home 12 event titles, nine personal-bests and six new top-10 marks.

At Arizona's Desert Heat Classic, a pair of Gophers' men won event titles for the third time this spring as Charles Godfred took home the men's long jump with a mark of 7.98m, while Devin Augustine claimed the top spot in the 100m with a time of 10.20. In the pole vault, Jak Urlacher cleared 5.27m, winning his first event title this spring.

The Minnesota throws squad shined at the 114th Drake Relays, started by Shelby Frank picking up a victory in the discus throw behind a top mark of 58.34m, marking her fourth discus title of the outdoor season. Angelos Mantzouranis won the men's hammer throw, recording a personal-best of 75.55m, the No. 2 mark in program history, while Anthonett Nabwe won the women's hammer throw with a personal-record of 65.23m. Erin Reidy added her second 1,500m race title of the week as she was the 1,500m champ in Des Moines, Iowa, covering the distance in 4:16.53, after claiming a win at the Gary Wilson Invitational just three days earlier.

Several of Minnesota's student-athletes also stayed home to compete at Macalester College's Rider/Bolstorff Invite. Kennedy Martinson won the women's 200m with a personal-best time of 25.06 seconds and also took home the 100m hurdles in 14.12 seconds. In the women's 1,500m, Charlotte Lange won with a time of 4:37.42 before Ellie Kuechle (1:02.80) won the women's 400m hurdles. In the field events, Autumn Glover (5.44m) took home the long jump title and Isabelle Schmidt won the women's shot put title with a throw of 13.49m. Ella Pavlovich capped the day by winning the women's hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 53.65m.

MINNESOTA IN THE RANKINGS
As it enters the conference championships, the Maroon and Gold rank No. 21 nationally on the women's side, while the men come in at No. 28 in the week seven USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Poll. The Gophers women continue to hold down the top spot in the Midwest Region and are No. 2 in the B1G, behind only Nebraska. Minnesota's men sit at No. 8 in the region and No. 12 among B1G teams.

GOPHERS COLLECT ANOTHER WEEKLY AWARD
For the second time during the outdoor campaign, junior sprinter Devin Augustine was selected as the Big Ten Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week, it was announced April 25. An NCAA All-American a year ago, Augustine continued his terrific junior season by setting a school record (10.02) in the 100m at LSU (April 20), taking home an event victory. His time ranked No. 3 by an NCAA Division I athlete this season and broke Kion Benjamin's previous school record of 10.07 from 2022. The Point Fortin, Trinadad & Tabago, native also won the men's 200m with a time of 20.98, which placed him at No. 10 in school history.
