Gophers Mourn the Loss of "Fastest Man in the World" Steve Jackman

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletics mourns the loss of Gopher swimming great and 1991 Hall of Fame inductee, Steve Jackman, who passed away on June 14. He was 83.
During his time with the University of Minnesota men's swimming & diving program, Jackman was an 11-time All-American, six-time NCAA gold medal winner, and eight-time Big Ten gold medal winner. Along with the individual success, Jackman also anchored Minnesota's 1962 NCAA Champion 400-yard freestyle relay team and 1963 NCAA Champion 400-yard medley relay team. He was dubbed the "Fastest Man in the World" after winning multiple NCAA titles in both the 50-yard and 100-yard individual freestyle events.
Following his time as a Gopher swimmer, Jackman went on to graduate from the University of Minnesota medical school with a doctorate in radiology.
Dr. Jackman was inducted into the U of M Aquatics Hall of Fame in 1986.
