Gophers Finish Tied for Ninth at ANNIKA Intercollegiate, Isabella McCauley Places Top Five

LAKE ELMO, Minn. – The University of Minnesota women's golf team closed out competition at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M earlier today. The Gophers ended the event tied for ninth place, the team's highest finish in seven years competing at the prestigious event. Minnesota posted a final team score of 286-298-293-877 (+13).
"We obviously didn't finish the way we wanted after the start, but still a great week for this team," said head coach Matt Higgins. "We learned a lot and as a coach, that's all you can ask for. This team is starting to believe in itself and is having fun on top of it, that's a great combination!"
Junior Isabella McCauley continues to headline the Maroon and Gold as an individual. McCauley placed tied for fourth with a three-day score of 67-73-71-211(-5). She capped off the final round carding two birdies and 15 pars.
"What Bella has done the first two tournaments is really special," said head coach Matt Higgins. "This is one of the top fields in golf and to get a fourth place finish is truly spectacular."
South Carolina was crowned tournament champion with a final score of 833 (-31) and South Carolina's Hannah Darling captured the top individual spot at 14-under-par (202).
Notable:
Sophomore Mariana Mesones played a bogey-free final round, notching one birdie, to close out the event tied for 16th with a score of 69-77-71-217 (+1).
Freshman Reese McCauley added four birdies in the final round and finished tied for 34th with a three-day score of 74-74-74-222 (+6).
Sophomore Sara Tomaszewski closed out the competition with a final score of 76-74-78-228 (+12) and tied for 51st place.
Completing her Gopher debut, junior Madison Le finished tied for 59th with a three-day score of 82-77-77-236 (+20).

The team will be back in action on Sept. 22-23 at the Mary Fossum Invitational at Fort Akers Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich.
