Big Ten Announces 2024-2025 Men’s and Women’s Swimmers and Divers to Watch List

MINNEAPOLIS - The Big Ten Conference announced it's 2024-2025 Men's and Women's Swimmers and Divers to Watch List on Wednesday afternoon. Four Gophers were selected: Vivi Del Angel (Jr.) and Katie McCarthy (So.) of the women's swimming and diving program, and Bar Soloveychik (Sr.) and YuTong Wang (So.) of the men's swimming and diving program.
Del Angel is coming off a nationally acclaimed sophomore campaign. The Veracruz, Mexico native earned Big Ten Diver of the Year and Second-Team All-Big Ten honors last season and became the first-ever Golden Gopher woman diver to win a National Championship on platform. The 2x All-American ranks second in team history for platform (360.65) and seventh on both the 3-meter (367.85) and on the 1-meter (324.95).
McCarthy is coming off an historic freshman season. She etched her name into the history books in three events, ranking eighth in the 500 free (4:41.82), seventh in 400 IM (4:10.59), and tenth in the 1650 free (16:11.89) in school history. McCarthy was also named the winner of the W.I.N. (Whatever Is Needed) award at the team banquet last year.
Soloveychik returns to the "U" after a successful 2023-2024 season. He was named an All-American in the 1650 free and an honorable mention All-American in the 500 free and he earned second team All-Big Ten honors. Soloveychik also holds school records in the 200 free (1:33.41), 500 free (1:33.41), 1000 free (8:52.95), 1650 free (14:41.40), and the 800-freestyle relay (6:16.25). While making his Olympic debut at the 2024 Paris Games, Soloveychik helped Team Israel reach the Olympic finals in the 4x200m freestyle relay for the first time in history.
Wang is also coming off of an historic freshman season. He was named a 2024 All-American for both 1 and 3 meters, First-Team All-Big Ten, and a 3x Big Ten Diver of the Week (Oct. 10, Nov. 8, Dec. 6). Wang was the Big Ten Champion in the 1-meter with a score of 408.25. He also placed eighth in the 1 and 3 meters at NCAAs.
The University of Minnesota swimming and diving program is set to begin the 2024-25 season in Lincoln, Neb. on Friday, Oct. 4th. It will then make its home debut on Oct. 11th against Army.
