Sharpe Leads Gophers Through Day One of Gopher Invitational

INDEPENDENCE, MINN. - Minnesota junior Cormac Sharpe concluded the first 36 holes tied for the top individual spot at the Gopher Invitational on Sunday with a score of 139 (-3).
The host-Gophers sit in second-place overall with a score of 4-over par. A four-over first round of 288 put the Maroon and Gold down early, but the team bounced back in round two with an even-par round of 284 to maintain in second place after day one.
Big-Ten rival Iowa leads the tournament by one shot (286-285–571).
Notable:
Sharpe nabbed eight birdies through his first 36 holes, playing holes six and eighteen at 4-under par to elevate him into a tie for the top individual spot (70-69).
Fellow junior Eduardo Galdos finished his first 36 holes tied for 11th-place. Galdos showed his resilience throughout the day after carding a first round of 73 and quickly bouncing back in round two with a 1-under 71.
Senior Bennett Swavely capped off his day tied for 20th overall with a score of 3-over par (71-74).
Making their debuts in the Maroon and Gold, freshman Chun-Ta Wu finished the day tied for 37th (74-74), with fellow freshman Jack Crousore concluded his day tied for 40th (77-72).
Competing as an individual, junior Mason Roloff carded 10 birdies in his first day of the Gopher Invitational. He is tied with Swavely for 20th-place after the first 36 holes.
Also competing as an individual, junior Jack Wetzel finished his day at 9-over par and tied for 51st (73-78).
Making his debut as a Gopher, freshman Ryan Stendahl ended the first day of competition tied for 71st (77-79), while sophomore Kyler Schwamb finished two shots back of Stendahl, tied for 74th (79-79).
