No. 24 ‘U’ Heads South for The Dual Meet Tournament

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota swimming and diving program faces their first road action of the 2025-26 season this weekend, heading south to take on The Dual Meet Tournament hosted by Georgia Tech.
The action kicks off on Friday, Oct. 17, at 7:30 AM CT with the Gophers taking on the Auburn University Tigers in the opening round of the tournament.

Both men's and women's programs ranked at No. 24 in the first College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll of the season on Oct. 2.
Last Time Out
The Gophers were quick to jump back into winning form, collecting first place finishes in all 26 events of their season debut and picking up triple digit wins over Nebraska and South Dakota.
Drew Bennett and Braylon Goodno ran the table over in the diving well for the first event of the year. The duo collected first and second place respectively in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events, with Bennett collecting scores of 351.80 and 370.25 and Goodno collecting scores of 279.95 and 319.70.
Elna Widerstrom and Vivi Del Angel wrote a similar story on the women's side, with Widerstrom collecting scores of 317.00 and 326.55 and Del Angel collecting scores of 300.90 and 315.55 to sweep first and second in both events.
On the swimmers side, Ryan Slonac and Katie McCarthy led the Gophers to open the year. Slonac picked up a pair of individual wins in the 50 free (20.39) and the 200 back (1:46.66), while also anchoring the team's winning 200 free relay (1:21.11). McCarthy collected a trio of individual wins to start the year, taking first in the 1000 free (9:57.75), the 200 IM (2:03.36), and the 500 free (4:51.80).
Gopher newcomers John Watson, Finnly Jollands, and Ethan Schutten also had strong outings in their debut for the maroon and gold. Watson collected an individual win in the 200 IM with a time of 1:49.81, while Jollands collected a win in the 200 back with a time of 2:00.15. Schutten collected his individual win in the 500 free with a time of 4:32.17.

The University of Minnesota women will head to Iowa City to take on the Hawkeyes before both programs return to Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center for a Senior Day dual meet with the University of Wisconsin. Action against the University of Iowa is set to take place on Friday, Oct. 31, at 1:30 PM.
