The men's team finished sixth at the Pre-Nationals meet in Columbia, Mo.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota cross country program was split between the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wis., and the Pre-Nationals meet in Columbia, Mo., with the men finishing sixth on Friday in Missouri while the women were 24th at Wisconsin. The Maroon and Gold's top individual finishers were Aidan Jones (44th, 24:02.5) and Isabelle Schmitz (76th, 20:56.7). Additionally, running to an unattached victory in the Nuttycombe Invitational 6K B Race was Ali Weimer who clocked a 20:21.1 in the win.

Grace Hartman of No. 2 NC State won the women's 6K Championship race in a time of 19:30.1, while the Wolfpack won the team title with 41 points at Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course. The men's champion at Pre-Nationals in Missouri was Florida's Kelvin Cheruiyot in an 8K time of 22:44.6. Georgia claimed the men's team title with 119 points while Minnesota finished with 257 points in sixth place.

Halfway through the men's race the Golden Gophers sat in 13th of 32 teams at Gans Greek XC Course, but a surge between the 5K and 7K splits moved the team up to sixth in a quality field that included three USTFCCCA ranked programs and 16 Power-4 programs. Jones was the top finisher at 44th, but Minnesota's lineup finished in bunches with all five scorers placing between 44th and 55th. Emmett Gerres had his best performance of the season in 50th overall and second among the Gophers in a time of 24:05.9. Sam Scott (24:12.2), Jaedyn Chase (24:12.4) and Aloysius Franzen (24:13.7) rounded out Minnesota's scoring lineup.

Minnesota's women finished 24th overall as a team (585 points), finishing ahead of one USTFCCCA ranked opponent in No. 28 Providence. For the first time in her college career, Schmitz led Minnesota's lineup in a cross country competition and moved up 28 positions in the final 2K. Taylor Isabel was the second Gopher across the finish line (21:07.9), Izzy Roemer was 119th overall (21:19.8) while Nadia Phillips (21:28.6) and freshman Norah Hushagen (21:44.6) rounded out the top five Minnesota runners on Friday morning.
