Gophers Open Series with Second Annual Field Trip Day

MINNEAPOLIS – The No. 2-ranked University of Minnesota women's hockey team returns home for a two-game series against Bemidji State following its first bye week of the 2025-26 season. The weekend opens with the second annual Field Trip Day game, presented by Kwik Trip, on Friday, Nov. 14 at 3M Arena at Mariucci at 12:00 p.m. CT, followed by a 2:00 p.m. CT puck drop on Saturday, Nov. 15 at Ridder Arena. Both games will stream live on B1G+.

Last Time Out
The No. 2-ranked Gophers return to the ice following their first bye week of the 2025–26 season. Minnesota last faced top-ranked Wisconsin in Madison, earning a series split. The Gophers skated to a commanding 5-1 win on Friday, Oct. 31, before the Badgers responded with a 7-2 victory on Saturday, Nov. 1.

Scouting the Beavers
Bemidji State enters the weekend sitting seventh in the WCHA standings with a 3-6-1 overall record and a 1-6-1 mark in league play. The Beavers are coming off a 2-1 victory over then-No. 14 St. Thomas, highlighted by junior forward Shelby Sandberg's game-winning goal early in the third period. Junior Hailey Armstrong leads BSU with six goals, while sophomore Morgan Smith paces the team in points with seven (2g, 5a). In net, sophomore Kaitlin Groess has started six games and recently earned her second career WCHA Goaltender of the Week honor. Senior Ava Hills has also impressed with a .933 save percentage and 2.44 GAA through five appearances. Amber Fryklund returns for her second season behind the Bemidji State bench.

Inside the Series
Minnesota holds a commanding 99-9-7 all-time record against Bemidji State and will look to notch its 100th win in the series this weekend. Head coach Brad Frost owns a 69-7-4 mark against the Beavers, while Fryklund is 0-5-0 versus the Gophers. The teams last met on Jan. 25 during Hockey Day Minnesota at Valleyfair Amusement Park in Shakopee, where Minnesota earned a 3-1 victory in the program's third ever outdoor game.

Single-game parking passes will not be sold in advance for Friday's game. Individuals arriving on campus without a parking pass are encouraged to park in the Oak Street or Washington Avenue Ramps.

Field Trip Day Presented by Kwik Trip
Friday marks the second annual Field Trip Day game presented by Kwik Trip, held at 3M Arena at Mariucci. The matchup marks a historic return for the Gophers, as it will be the program's first game at Mariucci since March 1, 2002.

Best of the Best
Graduate forward Abbey Murphy and sophomore goaltender Hannah Clark were named Hockey Commissioners Association National Players of the Month for September–October. Murphy was recognized as Co-National Forward of the Month after leading the NCAA with 24 points (15g–9a), while Clark earned National Goaltender of the Month honors with an 8-1-0 record, .955 save percentage, and 1.32 GAA. Murphy collected her second career HCA award, while Clark became the first Gopher netminder to claim the national honor since Skylar Vetter (Dec. 2022).

International Stars Shine
Murphy and Gopher alumna Taylor Heise powered Team USA to a 4-1 win over Team Canada in the opening game of the 2025 Rivalry Series in Cleveland. Murphy netted a natural hat trick, while Heise added a goal and three assists. Freshman defender Chloe Primerano represented Team Canada in the matchup, while Josefin Bouveng (Sweden) and Tereza Plosova (Czechia) skated in the Women's Euro Hockey Tour in Ängelholm, Sweden, during Minnesota's bye week.

Points, Points, Points
Sophomore forward Josefin Bouveng continues to light up the scoresheet, extending her point streak to 11 straight games with a two-goal, one-assist series effort against Wisconsin.

Frost Climbs the Ranks
Head coach Brad Frost has moved into fourth place all-time in NCAA women's hockey wins, passing Mike Carroll with 538 career victories.

Offense on Overdrive
Minnesota's potent offense ranks second in the nation with 58 goals through 12 games this season.

Apple Picking
The Gophers also sit second nationally with 98 assists. Ava Lindsay leads both the team and the NCAA with 15 helpers, while Bouveng and Sydney Morrow each rank among the nation's top 10 with 10 assists apiece.

Productive Blue Line
Minnesota's defense continues to drive offense, as Morrow ranks third nationally among defenders with 13 points, followed closely by Nelli Laitinen in fourth with 11. Laitinen also ranks second among defenders with five goals.

Big-Time Player, Big-Time Plays
Murphy has recorded three game-winning goals this season, tied for third in the nation.

Pucks On, Pucks In
The Gophers have outshot opponents 437–353 while leading the WCHA with a 13.3% shooting percentage.

Iron Sharpens Iron
Minnesota wrapped up a grueling 10-game stretch against ranked opponents before its bye week, skating to an 8-2-0 record that included wins over No. 1 Wisconsin and then-No. 2 Ohio State.

Gopher Stat Leaders
Four Gophers rank among the nation's top 30 scorers: Murphy (T-1st, 25 pts), Lindsay (T-5th, 18), Bouveng (T-10th, 16), and Morrow (T-19th, 13). Murphy leads the WCHA in shots (77) and ranks second in plus/minus (+18). Clark stands top-20 nationally in all major goaltending categories with a .938 save percentage (15th) and 1.86 GAA (17th).

Special Teams Strength
Minnesota's special teams continue to shine, ranking sixth nationally on the power play (.263) and eighth in total power-play goals (10). The Gophers' penalty kill is also among the nation's best at .865.

National Recognition
Following the bye week, the Gophers remain the No. 2 team in the nation for the second consecutive week.

Leadership Group
Captains Abbey Murphy and Nelli Laitinen both return to wear the 'C' for the second straight season.

Behind the Bench
Head coach Brad Frost returns for his 19th season with the Gophers, entering the weekend with a career record of 538-123-42, four national titles, and seven conference championships. Associate head coach Greg May, assistant coach Mitch Baker, and assistant coach/general manager Jessica Scott also return to the staff.

Quest for Eight
Minnesota continues its pursuit of an eighth national championship, having already claimed seven titles (2000, 2004, 2005, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016).
