Minnesota Tops Green Bay in Overtime
11/15/2025 11:46:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Cade Tyson tallied 27 points, Jaylen Crocker-Johnson had his third double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Minnesota (3-1) prevailed over a pesky Green Bay team with a 72-65 overtime win at Williams Arena.
Â
The Gophers trailed by five early in the second half and battled their way back to build a six-point lead with 4:36 remaining in regulation, but Green Bay (1-4) tied the game with 1.9 seconds left. It looked like the Gophers wouldn't need OT, as Chansey Willis Jr. drained a last-second heave from beyond mid-court, but after review, it was ruled to have come after the buzzer. Crocker-Johnson had five key points during the OT, helping the Gophers to the seven-point victory.
Â
Tyson finished 7-of-14 from the field, including 3-of-5 from three-point range, and 10-of-14 at the free throw line for his game-high 27 points before fouling out in OT. Crocker-Johnson continued to dominate the boards, as he pulled down double-digit rebounds for the fourth straight game, helping Minnesota to a 41-37 edge on the glass. Isaac Asuma had nine points and seven assists, and Willis Jr. had eight points, five assists, four steals, and four rebounds.
Â
As a team, Minnesota was 23-of-55 (.418) from the field, including 6-of-22 (.273) from beyond the arc, but struggled at the free throw line by making 20-of-39 (.513) attempts. Langston Reynolds added five points and four rebounds, Grayson Grove had career-highs of four points and six rebounds, and Robert Vaihola had four points and five boards. Preston Ruedinger and Marcus Hall each had 15 points for Green Bay.
Â
The Gophers jumped out to an 8-2 lead, but a 7-2 Green Bay run trimmed the Gophers' lead to a single point at the 10:15 mark. Four free throws from Tyson accounted for Minnesota's lone points during an almost eight-minute field goal drought, and the Phoenix pulled ahead, 17-14. Layups from Grove and Tyson cut it to a one-point game, and a three-pointer by Tyson tied the game at 21-21 with 2:31 left in the half. Reynolds' fast-break dunk tied the score at 23-23, but Green Bay scored the final four points and took a 27-23 lead to the locker room.
Â
Tyson had 11 first-half points, but the Gophers were 8-of-27 (.296) from the floor, including just 1-of-9 (.111) from three-point range in the opening 20 minutes. Green Bay was led by C.J. O'Hara's nine points and five rebounds.
Â
A three-point play by Tyson and a Crocker-Johnson jumper in the lane tied the score at 28-28, but the Phoenix pulled back in front by four. A 7-0 run put the Gophers back in the lead, 35-32, as Asuma drained a three, Tyson scored in the lane, and Willis Jr. added a reverse layup. Green Bay outscored Minnesota 13-7 over the next six minutes to regain a 45-42 lead with 8:04 remaining, but a 6-0 run highlighted by a Willis Jr. steal and layup at the other end put Minnesota back in front by three, and Green Bay called timeout with 5:24 left. Minnesota extended the run to 9-0, as Tyson's corner three from in front of the Gophers' bench made it 51-45.
Â
Green Bay pulled within 51-49, but Asuma connected on a three-pointer with 3:24 left to put Minnesota back up by five. The Phoenix answered with a three from the top of the key at the other end and then tied the score on a dunk with 2:16 on the clock. Tyson responded with his third three-pointer of the night to make it 57-54 with 2:01 left. A pair of free throws cut Minnesota's lead to one with 1:48 left, but free throws put the Gophers up, 60-56. Once again, Green Bay connected on a three to trim the lead to one point with 0:14 left. Tyson made a free throw with 9.2 seconds left, and the Phoenix tied the score on a layup with 1.9 seconds on the clock. Willis took the inbounds pass and made the shot from beyond half court, but it was ruled to have been after the buzzer had sounded, sending the game to overtime.
Â
Willis drove baseline and dished to Vaihola for a layup to open the scoring in OT with 2:16 left. Green Bay tied it on a layup, but Crocker-Johnson drilled a three from the top of the key and then added a floater in the lane for a 68-63 lead with 0:47 left. A pair of Asuma free throws with 26.2 seconds left made it a seven-point lead. Green Bay cut it to 70-65 on a layup with 0:15.7 left, but Bobby Durkin drained two foul shots to seal the win.

Minnesota remains home for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff versus Chicago State on Tuesday, Nov. 18. The game will be streamed on B1G+.
