Minnesota Falls to Iowa in Final Two Games of Series

MINNEAPOLIS- The Golden Gophers fall to Iowa in the final two games of the series on Friday.
GAME 1 | Iowa 13, Minnesota 0
Senior Justin Thorsteinson (1-2) started and took the loss on the mound for Minnesota.
GAME NOTES
» Minnesota pitchers faced 46 Iowa hitters in the game, allowing eight ground balls and 11 fly balls while striking out five.
» The Golden Gophers drew four walks from Iowa pitching.
» Senior Josh Fitzgerald led the Golden Gophers at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a double.
GAME 2 | Iowa 7, Minnesota 6
The Minnesota Golden Gophers put together a last-chance comeback, scoring three runs in the ninth inning, but the late-game rally came up short and they fell 7-6 to the Iowa Hawkeyes Friday.
Sophomore Kyle Remington (0-5) got the ball to start for Minnesota (11-14, ) and took the loss. Junior Noah Rooney was a bright spot for the Golden Gophers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 3.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 3-0, the Golden Gophers first put runs on the board in the third inning. Minnesota scored twice in the inning, including one on a solo shot from junior Easton Richter.
The Hawkeyes expanded their lead to 6-2 before the Golden Gophers offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the fifth. Minnesota picked up a run on junior Drew Berkland's one-out solo home run off of senior Ben DeTaeye, which brought the score to 6-3 in favor of the Hawkeyes.
Iowa built their lead to 7-3 before the Minnesota offense got back in action, reducing that lead to 7-6 in the ninth. The Golden Gophers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
