Gopher Softball Hits the Road for LSU Round Robin

MINNEAPOLIS- The 'U' stays hits the road following a weekend at home. They will travel to Baton Rouge, LA to participate in the LSU Round Robin. This tournament will take place at Tiger Park on the campus of LSU. This weekend will mark the first time all season that the Gophers will play in the same time zone in consecutive weeks. Each of the Maroon and Gold's first four weekends were played in different time zones. Minnesota will face a loaded schedule and each game will have live stats and be broadcasted live on SECN+ on the WatchESPN App.

LSU Round Robin
The Gophers continue their 51st season of competition at the LSU Round Robin. This tournament was last played in 2020. This is the first year that Minnesota is participating in this tournament. The schools competing in this year's LSU Round Robin are the host LSU Tigers, Minnesota, and the South Alabama Jaguars. This competition starts with South Alabama vs. LSU on Friday March 7.
Checking Out the Field
Minnesota continues their run of facing stiff competition.The Gophers will square off with LSU and South Alabama twice during their time in Louisiana. The 'U' begins by taking on South Alabama at 1pm CT on Saturday Mar. 8. The Jaguars are 11-10 on the year. South Alabama started the year 4-1 and swept two games against Notre Dame on Feb. 21-22. They are coming off a 8-2 loss to McNeese State on Tuesday. The Gophers will also take on LSU who is ranked #4 in the country after starting the season 19-1. The Tigers only loss came 5-6 at Cal State Fullerton this past weekend. Following that loss, LSU has won 4 straight with 3 of those wins coming via the run rule. The Gophers will face the Jaguars and Tigers twice in two days. Each day starting with South Alabama and then finishing the day against #4 LSU.
History
The Gophers and Tigers will meet this weekend for the first time since Minnesota defeated LSU in 2019 to reach the WCWS. The Gophers defeated the Tigers marked the first time the 'U' had reached the WCWS. The Maroon and Gold beat LSU 2-0 in that Super Regional to make it to Oklahoma City. Prior to that meeting in 2019 LSU and Minnesota had faced each other one other time with the Gophers coming out on top 1-0 at Tiger Park in Baton Rouge. Minnesota and South Alabama have faced each other twice with the 'U' holding a 2-0 all-time record against the Jaguars. The Gophers won the first matchup 13-3 in 2018 and won the second matchup 10-0 on Feb. 8 2020.
Stats Highlights From Last Weekend
The Gophers had a great weekend at the Gopher Indoor Classic going 4-1. Taylor Krapf was one of the standout players at the plate as she hit .429 with 6 hits, 5 runs scored, and 7 RBI. She hit 4 homeruns and 2 doubles for 20 total bases. She slugged 1.429 and had an OB% of .579 while also having a 1.000 fielding% on 15 putouts and 1 assist. Jessa Snippes also made her mark on the weekend. She only had 4 at-bats but had 2 hits and scored 2 runs. Both of Snippes' hits were home runs with one being a 3-run shot and the other being a walk-off Grand Slam to beat Miami (OH). She amassed 7 RBI, 8 total bases, and a slug% of 2.000 and an OB% of .600. 5 Gophers hit over .300 for the weekend including Snippes who hit .500. In the circle, Sydney Schwartz had another good weekend for the 'U'. She appeared in 3 games and started 2 of them. She went 1-1 and tossed 1 complete game with a 2.25 ERA for the weekend. She amassed 20 innings pitched allowing 5 earned runs and 8 walks while striking out 16 hitters. She also hit a 3-run pinch hit home run against St. Thomas in her only plate appearance of the weekend. Natalie Susa made her first two collegiate appearances in the circle for Minnesota. She posted a 0.00 ERA in 4 innings pitched. She allowed 3 walks and struck out 5. She allowed an opponent BA of .071.
