MINNEAPOLIS – Gopher wrestling fans can get their first look at the 2025-26 squad on Friday, Oct. 24, when Minnesota hosts its annual open practice.
This year's version will take place at the Gopher Wrestling Training Facility at the Bierman Field Athletic Building (516 15th Ave. SE, Minneapolis, MN 55455). Doors open at 6 p.m. with practice scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. In addition, there's a Coaches Clinic, which starts with check-in at 12 p.m.
A very limited number of metered parking spots are available in front of Bierman on a first-come, first-serve basis. The next best parking option likely would be the 4th Street Ramp.
Minnesota returns five starters from last year's team that finished tied for fifth at the NCAA Championships, including redshirt sophomore Max McEnelly (184 pounds) and redshirt senior Vance VomBaur (141). Minnesota also brings back national qualifiers in sixth-year senior Andrew Sparks (165) and redshirt junior Clayton Whiting (174), plus last year's starter at 149 pounds Drew Roberts, a redshirt senior.
In addition, the team welcomes in a pair of transfers in two-time All-American Chris Cannon (release) and 2024 All-American Jore Volk (release), plus true freshmen Brett Swenson (release) and Charles Vanier (release).
