Wrestling Announces Full 2025-26 Schedule

9/29/2025 9:58:00 AM | Wrestling

MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota wrestling program has unveiled its full 2025-26 schedule, head coach Brandon Eggum announced Monday in conjunction with the Big Ten.

Six home duals plus a pair of unique events highlight the schedule for a Gopher team that returns five starters off of last year's squad that finished tied for fifth at the NCAA Championships, including redshirt sophomore Max McEnelly (184 pounds) and redshirt senior Vance VomBaur (141). Minnesota also brings back national qualifiers in sixth-year senior Andrew Sparks (165) and redshirt junior Clayton Whiting (174), plus last year's starter at 149 pounds Drew Roberts, a redshirt senior.

In addition, the team welcomes in a pair of transfers in two-time All-American Chris Cannon and 2024 All-American Jore Volk, plus true freshmen Brett Swenson and Charles Vanier.

After the team's open practice on Oct. 24, the season starts up on Nov. 2 at the Southeast Open, hosted by Virginia Tech at the Cregger Center on the campus of Roanoke College in Salem, Va.

The next week sees the Gophers travel north to the Bison Open, hosted by North Dakota State, on Nov. 9.

One of the most anticipated events of the non-conference slate comes Nov. 15-16 at the National Duals in Tulsa, Okla. The 16-team event will feature a total purse of more than $1 million.

The home opener and first dual is set for Nov. 25 when South Dakota State comes to town.

Another unique event takes place Dec. 4 when the Gophers face Little Rock for the first time. The dual will take place at Homestead High School in Mequon, Wis., with the Trojans serving as the home team. Little Rock's Matty Bianchi, a 2024 All-American, is from nearby Two Rivers, Wis., but it'll also be a homecoming for Gopher redshirt freshman Charlie Millard who attended Homestead. In addition, fellow Minnesota redshirt freshmen Silas Dailey (Cascade) and Wyatt Duchateau (Hartland), and redshirt sophomore Ethan Riddle (Germantown) are all from the surrounding area.

The final dual of 2025 is scheduled for Dec. 7 when Minnesota hosts North Dakota State.

The new year opens with the final tournament of the season as the Gophers head to the Soldier Salute, Jan. 3-4, in Coralville, Iowa, for the third straight year.

Focus then shifts to the Big Ten season, which features eight duals with three of the first four coming at home.

The conference slate starts on Jan. 10 with a road dual at Illinois. Minnesota has won six straight and 11 of the past 12 against the Illini.

A stretch of three straight home duals kicks off Jan. 16 when Nebraska comes to town. It'll be the eighth season in a row that the teams clash.

The next weekend features a pair of duals at Maturi Pavilion with Ohio State visiting on Friday, Jan. 23, and Wisconsin closing out the three-dual homestand on Sunday, Jan. 25. The matchup with the Buckeyes will be the first in Minneapolis since 2022, while the Gophers have taken 12 of the last 13 overall in the series with the Badgers.

After three in a row at home, Minnesota begins a run of three straight on the road, beginning with a dual at Iowa on Jan. 30. The Gophers and Hawkeyes have met every year since 1984.

The Golden Gophers head east for duals at Rutgers on Feb. 6 and at Maryland on Feb. 8. Minnesota is 7-0 all-time against the Scarlet Knights, while the Gophers and Terrapins are competing in College Park for the first time since 2018.

Minnesota closes out the regular season on Feb. 15 with a home dual against Michigan State. The Golden Gophers have won the last 13 matchups with the Spartans.

The postseason starts March 7-8 with the Big Ten Championships, hosted by Penn State, while the NCAA Championships are slated for March 19-21 at Rocket Arena in Cleveland.
