The Gophers outlasted the Wolverines 197.150-196.375
MINNEAPOLIS -- The No. 20 Minnesota gymnastics team pulled its second straight top-10 upset on Saturday afternoon at Maturi Pavilion. The Gophers took down the No. 5 Michigan Wolverines 197.150-196.375. The win was Minnesota's fourth straight over Michigan, dating back to 2024.
"I'm just so proud of the girls," said head coach Jenny Hansen. "We had a great week of practice after our last meet and made a lot of really positive strides. We made some upgrades and had a couple more 10.0 vault start values. We got very close to accomplishing everything we wanted to do today."
The Gophers posted a season-best score of 197.150, the earliest in a season they've gone over 197 in five years (197.025 on Jan. 15, 2021).
"The goal was to be at this point," Hansen said. "We've just been making really good progress every week and we knew we were capable of it. The goal is to make this the norm now. We can keep reaching higher from here."
The Gophers posted scores of 49.250 on vault, 49.250 on bars, 49.350 on beam and 49.300 on the floor. Michigan went 48.975 on vault, 49.050 on bars, 49.375 on beam and 48.975 on the floor.
Individually, Teryn Crump (9.900) posted a career-high and led the Gophers on vault, Jordyn Lyden (9.925) led on bars and beam while Brooklyn Rowray (9.925) tied her for the top beam score. On the floor, Leah Gonsiorowski posted a season-best 9.900 to lead the Gophers.
Crump took home the vault event title while Lyden won on bars. Michigan's Carli Boozer (9.950) won on beam while Gonsiorowski won on the floor.
"I thought Jordyn [Lyden} was fantastic tonight," Hansen said. "All three events were amazing for her. Brooklyn [Rowray] had a great night on beam as well. Emma [Slevin] had an awesome bars routine after a fall and that just got us back on track. It was a tough situation after a fall and she didn't hold back. That's really tough to do in that moment."
