Final Road Trip Sends Gophers to Rutgers, Maryland
2/5/2026 4:30:00 PM | Wrestling
MINNEAPOLIS -- No. 7/13 Minnesota (9-4, 3-2 B1G) closes out the road portion of its 2025-26 schedule with a pair of duals this weekend. Friday, the Golden Gophers visit No. 15 Rutgers (10-5, 3-3 B1G) at 6 p.m. CT before closing out their road slate at Maryland (4-7, 0-6 B1G) Sunday at 1 p.m. CT. Both matches will be carried by Big Ten Plus.
Minnesota has won five straight road duals after winning the last three straight to close out last season and then defeating No. 11 Illinois on Jan. 10, 27-9, and No. 4 Iowa on Jan. 30, 21-16. In fact, since a 2024 loss at Iowa, the Gophers have won 10 of their last 11 true road matchups.
The Golden Gophers are looking to build on the momentum from last week's 21-16 win at No. 4 Iowa. The win snapped an 11-match losing streak in the series, the team's longest active streak against another school, and marked the Golden Gophers' first win over the Hawkeyes since a 2014 win in Iowa City. The 21 points were Minnesota's most on the road in the series since 2007. A 29-13 win that year was also the Gophers' largest margin of victory in Iowa City prior to Friday night's five-point triumph. A complete recap of the dual can be found on Pages 5-6 of the notes.
