Minnesota Falls 4-2 to No. 1 UCLA in Game One

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. – The University of Minnesota baseball team opened up their weekend road series against No. 1 UCLA tonight, falling to the Bruins 4-2 despite out hitting the top ranked team at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

 

Cole Selvig got the ball to start the tilt for Minnesota and was credited with the loss. Adam Urban was a bright spot for the Golden Gophers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

 

The Gophers were first to get on the scoreboard, plating two runs in the fourth on a two out triple to center field off the bat of Charlie Sutherland

 

The Gophers were unable to hold the lead, as UCLA scored four times in the fifth inning on a pair of RBI hits and a pair of sacrifice flies.

 

GAME NOTES

 

» Minnesota's highest scoring inning was the fourth, when it pushed two runs across.
» The Golden Gophers out-hit the Bruins at a 5-4 clip.
» Minnesota pitchers faced 32 UCLA hitters in the game, allowing seven ground balls and seven fly balls while striking out nine.
» Sutherland led the Golden Gophers at the plate, going 1 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs.

The Gophers return to action at Jackie Robinson Stadium tomorrow for game two of the weekend conference series. All the action is set to kick off at 4:00 PM (CT).
