2024 Outdoor Track & Field • Redshirt Senior Season: Earned a spot on the Academic All-Big Ten team... Competed in seven meets during the outdoor season, competing in the hammer throw and the shot put... Placed 15th at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships in the hammer throw with a mark of 58.69m (192-7)... Posted a seasons best throw of 59.61m (195-7) at the Clyde Hart Classic in Waco, Texas, to finish sixth overall... Was third at the Gary Wilson Invite in the h ammer throw with a toss of 59.03m (193-8)... Opened the outdoor season at the Hurricane Invite, placing fourth in the shot put (16.61m | 54-6) and fifth in the hammer throw (59.22m (194-3).
2023 Outdoor Track & Field • Redshirt Junior Season: Competed in just two meets outdoors and then was forced to miss the remainder of the season with an injury.
2022 Outdoor Track & Field • Redshirt Sophomore Season: Reached the NCAA West Regional for the second time in his career in the hammer throw... Finished 30th at the NCAA West Regional with a mark of 61.81m (202-9)... Was a member of Minnesota's No. 1 ranked Hammer Throw group according to the USTFCCCA Event Squad rankings... Competed in the shot put, discus and hammer throw at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships, finishing 14th in the hammer throw... Was the runner-up at the St. Thoams Tommie Twilight in both the shot put and hammer throw... Finished as the runner-up at the LSU Alumni Gold in the shot put, nearly matching his lifetime best with a throw of 17.25m (56-7 1/4).
2021 Indoor Track & Field • Redshirt Freshman Season: Competed in shot put and weight throw at six meets • made B1G debut, finishing sixth in weight throw with a career-best mark of 20.13m (66-00.50) in weight throw and placing 25th in shot put at the Big Ten Indoor Championships • recorded a career-best throw of 16.10m (52-10.00) as shot put runner-up at the Hawkeye Border Battle • also finished as weight throw runner-up at the Hawkeye Border Battle.
2021 Outdoor Track & Field • Redshirt Freshman Season: Named Academic All-Big Ten honoree • competed at seven meets • placed 36th in hammer throw at the NCAA West Prelim • finished 12th in hammer throw, 16th in discus, and 20th in shot put at the Big Ten Championships • recorded a career-best throw of 62.17m (203-11) as runner-up in hammer throw and a career-best mark of 16.90m (55-05.50) to place seventh in shot put at the M City Classic • recorded a career-best throw of 51.05m (167-06) to place sixth in discus at the Wisconsin B1G Invitational.
2020 Indoor Track & Field • Freshman Season: Redshirted the 2020 indoor season • competed unattached in shot put and weight throw • recorded seven top-10 finishes.
2020 Outdoor Track & Field • Freshman Season: The 2020 outdoor track & field season was canceled on March 12, 2020, when the Big Ten and NCAA announced they were ceasing competitions and championships because of COVID-19 public health concerns.
High School: A graduate of Sidney High School • closed out his prep career with three-straight Montana State A shot put titles and three-straight Montana State A discus titles in 2017, 2018, and 2019 • also played football • named academic all-state in football and track & field.
Personal: A native of Sidney, Mont. • son of Jerry and Shannon Hughes • brother, Garrison, competes for Nebraska’s track & field program.
