2021 Indoor Track & Field • Junior Season: Joined the Gophers for his junior season • competed in weight throw at five meets • recorded a season-best mark of 20.47m (67-02.00) to place third in weight throw at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational • made B1G debut, finishing third in weight throw at the Big Ten Indoor Championships • won weight throw at the Hawkeye Border Battle.
2021 Outdoor Track & Field • Junior Season: NCAA Championships qualifier in discus • competed at seven meets with seven appearances in discus and six in hammer throw • placed 19th in discus (53.03m, 173-11) at the NCAA Championships • placed third in discus and 35th in hammer throw at the NCAA West Prelim • recorded a career-best throw of 66.70m (218-10) to place fourth in hammer throw and finished 22nd in discus at the Big Ten Championships • won discus with a career-best throw of 59.55m (195-04) to rank fifth in program history at the Wisconsin B1G Invitational where he also finished second in hammer throw (64.62m, 212-00) • ended the season ranked fifth in discus (59.55m, 195-04) and seventh in hammer throw (66.70m, 218-10) among all-time Gophers.
2019-20 Track & Field • Sophomore Season: Named 2020 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field All-American by the USTFCCCA • competed at six meets for Barton during the indoor season • finished as NJCAA national runner-up in weight throw with a career-best mark of 20.89m (68-06.50) after winning weight throw at the NJCAA Region VI Indoor Championships • tied the NJCAA weight throw record at the indoor national meet but ultimately finished second • 2020 outdoor season was canceled because of COVID-19 public health concerns.
2018-19 Track & Field • Freshman Season: Began collegiate career at Barton Community College in great Bend, Kan. • named NJCAA All-American in weight throw and discus by USTFCCCA • competed at six meets during the indoor season with six appearances in weight throw and two in shot put • finished fourth in weight throw at the NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships with a then career-best mark of 18.39m (60-04) • finished third in weight throw and ninth in shot put with a career-best throw of 13.59m (44-07) at the NJCAA Region VI Indoor Championships • competed in both discus and hammer throw at seven meets during the outdoor season • finished as NJCAA national runner-up in discus with a career-best throw of 55.47m (182-00) and competed in hammer throw but did not record a mark at the NJCAA DI Outdoor Track & Field Championships • finished second in discus and took third in hammer throw with a career-best mark of 58.78m (192-10) at the NJCAA Region VI Outdoor Championships • hammer throw PR ranked fourth in NJCAA in 2019 • won discus titles at the Michael Johnson Invitational and FHSU Alex Francis Classic.
High School: A 2016 graduate of Excelsior High School in Kingston, Jamaica where he competed for coach Michael Vassell • a four-sport athletes who competed in track & field, volleyball, field hockey, and soccer • finished as discus runner-up at the 2018 Jamaican U20 Championships after placing third in 2017 • finished third in discus at the 2018 CARIFTA Trials after placing fifth in 2017 • won U18 discus title at the 2016 CARIFTA Games with a CARIFTA record mark of 60.44m • competed at the 2011 CAC Games.
Personal: Son of Kimika Powell-Barnett • has two siblings, Onieka and Soyeni • intends to major in Sport Management • high school teammates with Gopher alumna Nakoya Clunis • enjoys cooking and listening to music.
