ROBERTSON AND McLAIN COMPETE AT THUNDERBIRDS INVITATIONAL

University of Minnesota freshmen Eric Robertson and Nate McLain competed in the 1999 Arizona State Thunderbirds Invitational today. The tournament contains 32 singles players and 15 doubles teams hosted by Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz.

In the first round of singles play, freshman Eric Robertson of Milwaukee, Wis., defeated Matt Klinger of Arizona State, 5-7, 7- 6 (5), 6-4. Robertson will play Stephen Huss of Auburn tomorrow morning.

McLain, of Prior Lake, Minn., lost to Pim Van Mele of Arizona State, 6-4, 6-2. McLain will play Andy Scorteanu of Fresno State tomorrow afternoon in the consolation bracket.
