CHICOINE RECEIVES AUTOMATIC BID TO NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

ChampionshipUniversity of Minnesota senior Tom Chicoine received one of four automatic bids from Region IV to compete at the 1999 NCAA Singles Tennis Championships, May 26-30 in Athens, Ga. This is the second straight year Chicoine has received an automatic bid to the singles championships.
Chicoine, a native of Neenah, Wis., has a 32-15 overall record this season and is currently ranked 27th in the nation. He plays No. 1 singles for the 38th-ranked Golden Gophers. Chicoine is joined by Notre Dame's Ryan Sachire, Illinois' Oliver Freelove and Wisconsin's Mark Loughrin as the four automatic selections from Region IV. Doug Bohaboy of Northwestern and Tyler Cleveland of Iowa also received at-large bids.
The Golden Gophers will play No. 24-ranked Washington Saturday, May 15 in Athens, Ga., in the first round of the NCAA Team Championships.
