GOLDEN GOPHERS ADVANCE TO SEMI-FINALS AT BIG TENS

The University of Minnesota men's tennis team won four singles matches en route to a 4-1 second round victory over Northwestern Friday at the Big Ten Championships in Bloomington, Ind.

In number two singles, Minnesota's Thomas Haug defeated Northwestern's Jost Hol 6-2, 6-3. At number two singles, Minnesota's Jorge Duenas took care of Northwestern's Josh Axler 6-1, 7-5. Minnesota's Tyson Parry and Jon Svensson then rounded out the four singles victories with Parry defeating Northwestern's Jamie Sahara in the fifth slot 6-3, 6-3, and Svensson winning over Northwestern's Russell Bennett at number six 6-2, 6-1.

Minnesota's Parry and Eric Robertson then teamed up in the number three spot to post the Golden Gophers' only doubles win. The tandem defeated Northwestern's Axler and Sahara by a count of 8-4.

With the win, the Golden Gophers will advance to the semi-finals to face the winner of No. 6 Ohio State and No. 3 Indiana Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
