MINNESOTA ADVANCES TO SWEET SIXTEEN

swThe University of Minnesota men's tennis team defeated Indiana State University by a score of 4-0 Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Tennis Championships at Terre Haute, Ind., to advance to the sweet sixteen for the third time in its last five years under Head Coach David Geatz.

The win, which marked the Golden Gophers second consecutive shutout of the tournament, was paced by Minnesota's Harsh Mankad, Thomas Haug, and Jorge Duenas who won the Golden Gophers top three singles matches. Mankad defeated Indiana State's Jonas Piibor in No. 1(6-4, 6-2), Haug took care of Indiana State's Henry Choi at the No. 2 spot (7-6, 6-2), and Duenas won in No. 3 over Indiana State's Adam Baranowski (6-4, 6-4).

Minnesota then took two of three doubles matches with Martin Michalowski/Haug defeating Indiana State's Piibor/Gareth Keating in No. 1 (8-6) and Tyson Parry/Jon Svensson defeating Indiana State's Baranowski/ Stefan Hirn at No. 2 (8-4).

No. 18 Minnesota, now 24-6 on the year, will play the winner of No. 1 Stanford and Auburn Saturday, May 20 in Athens, Ga.
