MEN'S TENNIS DOMINATES AT BIG TEN SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIPS

Thomas Haug, Manuel Lievano, Avery Ticer, Chris Wettengel and No. 9 Aleksey Zharinov, will compete at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow.

Minnesota's athletes won three of four matches against seeded players. Lievano defeated #14 Alex Kasarov of Wisconsin, 6-1, 6-3. Wettengel upset #15 Chris Mitchell of Michigan State, 6-3, 7-6 (4) and Ticer defeated #16 Chris Martin of Illinois, 6-1, 6-2.

Haug is the tournament's No. 1 seed, while Zharinov is seeded ninth.

Junior Eric Robertson lost in the first round, but won his consolation match. The tournament runs through Monday.

2nd round - def. Matt Rose (PUR), 7-5, 7-6 (1)

Manuel Lievano:
1st round - def. Justin Gaard (IOWA), 6-3, 6-4

Aleksey Zharinov:
1st round - def. Greg Novak (MICH), 2-6, 6-3, 6-4
2nd round - def. Scott Green (UW), 6-3, 6-1

Chris Wettengel:
1st round - def. Jamie Sahara (NW), 6-4, 6-1
2nd round - def. #15 Chris Mitchell (MSU), 6-3, 7-6 (4)

Avery Ticer:
1st round - def. #16 Chris Martin (ILL), 6-3, 6-3
2nd round - def. Chuck Perrin (NW), 6-1, 6-2

Eric Robertson:
1st round - lost to #10 Scott Mayer (PUR), 6-4, 6-0
Consolation - def. Ryan Recht (IND), 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3
