Estes Advances at Omni Hotels ITA Midwest Regional Championships

In the first day of qualifying competition at the Omni Hotels ITA Midwest Regional Championships in Madison, Wis., junior Clay Estes advanced to the second round by defeating Brent Lehring of Xavier 6-3, 6-1. Estes will face Eric Simonton of Michigan State Friday morning.

In other singles action, senior Eric Robertson was defeated by Sam Davidson of DePaul 6-7, 3-6. Robertson will pair up with Steve Solberg in the doubles draw which begins Saturday. Fellow Gophers Aleksey Zharinov, Chris Wettengel, Avery Ticer, Manuel Lievano and Thomas Haug will compete in the main singles draw which kicks off Saturday morning.
