Minnesota Sends Three into Semifinals of Big Ten Singles Championship

The University of Minnesota Men's Tennis Team will have three players in tomorrow morning's semifinals of the Big Ten Singles Championship at the Baseline Tennis Center. The semifinals begin at 9 a.m., followed by the championship match which will begin one hour after the completion of the semifinals.
Second-seeded Aleksey Zharinov continued his dominance with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Northwestern's Adam Schachterle in the Round of 16. Zharinov breezed through his quarterfinal match with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Purdue's Andrew Wakefield. In four matches, he has yet to lose a set and has four 6-0 sets to his credit.
Zharinov will face No. 7 Vincent Ng of Ohio State in one of the semifinals. The other semifinal will feature an all-Minnesotan lineup.
Third-seeded Thomas Haug ousted Michigan's Michael Rubin, 7-6, 6-4, and then defeated No. 8 Chris Martin of Illinois, 6-4, 6-2. Haug will meet Manuel Lievano, the lone unseeded player to reach the semifinals.
Lievano defeated David Hippee of Wisconsin, 6-1, 6-4 and then outlasted Michigan State's Andrew Formanczyk in three sets, 6-1, 6-7, 6-4.
